Founded by Director Lynn Summerside 4 years ago, Sit ‘n’ ‘b’ Fit CIC has since established good working partnerships within the local communities and organisations operating with the Health and Well-Being Agenda.
We feel that our work is contributing greatly to the health of the region, with notable results. Because of our success rate, Sit ‘n’ ‘b’ Fit CIC has recently successfully secured funding from the Department of Health Social Enterprise Investment Fund (SEIF).
Currently Sit ‘n’ ‘b’ Fit CIC employs 12 staff that deliver at 53 venues per week in Sunderland, with more classes coming on stream throughout the year. In total, Sit ‘n’ ‘b’ Fit CIC reaches out to over 2000 individuals across the region.
We also rely on volunteers who generously give up their time to help with our sessions and administration duties. If you would like to get involved, please drop us a line through our contact page, or on the phone numbers listed.
ALICE (her own words)
“I joined the exercise sessions early this year, twice a week, to help me get some fitness into my body. At first, due to my disabilities, I completed the exercises sitting down and only doing what my body would allow me to achieve.
I had low self esteem and physical problems to overcome but, with support from the team leader, Linda, and others joining the class, I have surpassed even my own expectations and can now do most of the exercises standing most of the time. I have relapses now and again but there is no pressure on me to join in, in fact there is a lot of support and understanding of my disabilities.
I hope someone reading this gets some inspiration to join an exercise group in your area and hope you can get the support and incentive I have received, it’s a lot of hard work but worth it in the end.”
LINDA (Teacher)
Alice began the 50+ Wellness class at Ryhope Community Association on Black Road doing her exercise session in the chair and never thought she would progress as quickly to her feet as she did. In fact she didn’t expect to progress from the chair at all! This has been a gradual progression but she achieved this within a few months.
Her confidence on her feet has increased due to the great improvement in her balance and co-ordination. There is also a notable improvement in her flexibility and suppleness and she no longer has low self esteem.
Alice’s stamina has significantly increased to the point that she now completes a full hour on her feet, at an active level, twice a week.
